Concrete Fiber

By adding fiber to the ConcreteClay, you create your own fiber-reinforced concrete. The fibers act as reinforcement within the mix, increasing tensile strength.

When working with MakeMake ConcreteClay, we always add fiber to the first layer - not only to strengthen the material but also to help prevent shrinkage cracks. The fibers are soft and therefore ideal for use in moldable concrete, but they can also be used in other types of concrete.

For 18 kg of ConcreteClay, 15 g of fiber is required. For larger projects, the fibers are also available in 200 g and 600 g bags.

Our fibers are made of polypropylene.

We almost always use our polypropylene fiber in the first layer when working with MakeMake ConcreteClay to further reinforce the material. It is typically not used in the second layer, as this would limit the detailing options in the surface. For example, carving into the ConcreteClay would not produce clean, sharp lines. The fibers would pull extra material away, resulting in rough edges. This is exactly why our ConcreteClay is not pre-mixed with fibers.

In some cases, however, fiber is also used in the second layer. For instance, when applying very thin layers. If fibers are required in the second layer, any exposed fibers can be removed afterward by carefully burning them off with a gas torch or similar tool.

The fibers are 12 mm long.
