Verdigris Copper Effect – Start Kit

This product enables the creation of patinated surface effects on non-metallic objects. Patina typically develops over time as a result of oxidation (rusting) on metallic surfaces.

Technical Components: This starter kit contains four components:

1. Universal Primer: For application on clean, non-porous surfaces.

2. Metallic Coating: A liquid paint formulated with high-density metal particles (e.g., iron powder).

3. Oxidation Medium: A liquid activator that reacts with the metallic particles to produce color.

4. Clear Lacquer: A protective sealer for the finalized oxidized surface.

Application Protocol:

• Surface Preparation: For non-porous objects (glass, metal, plastic, wax), apply a thin coat of Universal Primer using a soft brush and allow to dry for 40 minutes to 1 hour. This may also be applied to porous surfaces such as concrete and plaster to enhance adhesion. The primer dries transparent.

• Metallic Application: Stir the metallic mixture thoroughly before applying with a soft brush. If the original surface color remains visible, apply a second coat. The mixture can be brushed on or applied with a spatula to create specific aesthetic textures. Irregularities and textures simulate long-term weathering. These liquids can be blended and manipulated to achieve varied artistic results.

• Oxidation Process: Once the metallic layer is dry (approx. 1 hour, depending on thickness), apply the Oxidation Medium. This can be applied over the entire surface, to specific areas, or varied in density to achieve a realistic, uneven look. Use a soft brush. Safety: Wear protective gloves and goggles.

• Development: Oxidation is an ongoing process. Allow it to develop further in selected areas to create unique effects. Oxidation begins immediately but may take several hours to mature. The work can be left overnight. Once oxidation is complete (after approx. 10 hours), the effect can be further refined by light brushing or using a damp sponge to remove loose crystals.

• Sealing: After a further 24 hours of drying, the surface can be sealed with the protective Clear Lacquer, making the finished piece suitable for outdoor display.

Storage & Safety: Ensure all containers are tightly sealed after use. Store the Oxidation Medium between 10–20°C. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Keep chemicals away from food and out of reach of children. Do not eat or smoke while handling these products.
