When a project demands monumental scaling, it requires a unique combination of structural engineering and artistic intuition. These three giant jars are physical proof of what happens when an artist's creative vision is backed by MakeMake®’s specialised expertise in constructing large figures and permanent monuments.
Rather than just supplying the mediums, MakeMake® stepped into the workshop to produce these giant recreations ourselves. Working in close collaboration with the artist, our team took the original sketches and transformed them into towering, structurally sound realities. Manufactured directly by MakeMake® using our own high-performance ConcreteClay™, these unique jars showcase our ability to lift art off the paper and turn it into weather-resistant, large-scale monuments that preserve the soul of the original design.
The Production Journey: How MakeMake® Builds Giants
The transition from a sketch to a giant, freestanding jar is a complex journey of volume, balance, and advanced material science. To ensure these unique shapes remained true to the artist's vision, MakeMake® handled the entire fabrication process using a proven, heavy-duty workflow.
Engineering the Volume: Every monumental sculpture requires a solid foundation. At the MakeMake® workshop, we constructed custom internal armatures designed to withstand immense pressure and weight, perfectly mirroring the proportions and unique fashion of the artist's original sketch.
Hand-Sculpted by Our Experts: Once the core structure was secure, our team applied MakeMake® ConcreteClay™. Because this material can be worked with just like traditional clay but cures with the strength of concrete, our craftsmen could meticulously shape the sweeping curves, necks, and rims of the massive jars by hand.
Replicating the Artist's Texture: Using the extended working time that ConcreteClay™ provides, MakeMake®’s team hand-carved the surface details to ensure the specific artistic textures from the sketch were replicated flawlessly at a monumental scale.
Cured for Eternity: The production finished with a natural curing process, turning the clay into stone-hard, frost-proof monuments. Because MakeMake® managed the production from start to finish, the final pieces stand as robust, permanent installations ready to endure the elements in any outdoor or indoor setting.
